Happy Fall!

Happy Fall!  Is it me, or did this summer fly by faster than any other?  I thought I’d pop in and share a few pictures of my home in its current early fall state.

My favorite blue and white pumpkins have reappeared.

Side porch by morning and front porch in the evening.

And even a little cooking.  Which is kind of fun when everything’s right out of the garden.

Thanks for stopping by.  I’ll be back soon.

Before and After – Part 1

I don’t know about you, but I love a good before and after.  Since I just completed the One Room Challenge I guess I’m still in that mindset.  So I went searching through my pictures and here’s what I came up with.

Here’s the most recent, the master bathroom.

Master bedroom.  I love brass, but 1980’s lacquered brass, not so much.  Spray paint is life changing!  And in fairness to me, the before was immediately after we moved into the house!

I have shared this before, but it’s a good before and after – the 1950 secretary.  It had been damaged, so no worries about a quality piece being painted!

This series will go on til I run out of befores and afters.  And that won’t happen anytime soon.  Also, since most home decor blogs seem to have a house tour, I’ll be working on that as well.  #cantstopwontstop

Thanks for stopping by!

One Room Challenge – The Reveal – Master Bath

It’s finally here!  Week 6, the Reveal!  If you’ve just popped in I am a guest participant in Linda of  Calling it Home’s One Room Challenge. Over the past 6 weeks our master bathroom has finally come into its own and I am thrilled with the result.

Here’s what we started with.

And here’s where we are now!

final 018

The marble vanity top pretty much steals the show.  The contrast with more gray in the vanity top and white in the floor tile keeps it nice and bright.  I painted the existing vanity Benjamin Moore Advance white.   Good bye pickled oak!   The art glass knobs are from an etsy shop. I’m really liking the little touches of green.  Speaking of green……final 008

meet my pagoda lantern.  LOVE!!  And last, but certainly not least, this may now be the best dressed window in the house!  (And most difficult to photograph!)

I was the lucky instagram winner of a custom couture monogram from Emily McCarthy. I sent them my fabric and this is the result.  I could not love it more!!!  Thank you Emily and Meredith!  All  the water colors are from our honeymoon and other trips to the islands.  As far as the decor and chinoiserie art, I used what I already owned.  If you buy what you love, it all comes together.

No more talking.  Just pictures!

So, there you have it!  If you’ve gotten this far I cannot thank you enough for sticking with me.  Thank you so much, Linda, for allowing guests to link up to this challenge.  It  has been so much fun.  I would do it again in a heart beat.  Be sure to check out the 20 designers and all the other guest participants at Calling it Home.  There is tons of inspiration to be had.

One Room Challenge – Week 5 – Master Bath

may 4 039

Week 5!!  Let’s get right to it!  If you’ve just stopped by, I am a guest participant in Linda from Calling it Home’s super fabulous One Room Challenge. You can follow along with the 20 designers/design bloggers on Wednesdays at Calling it Home.  And the guests can be found there on Thursdays.  I’m updating our master bathroom.   I am so happy to report that things are right on track with our master bath renovation.  The rest of my house isn’t all that perfect right now and there probably won’t be a decent meal for another week.  But come on!  Priorities!!!  The bathroom is coming along.  That’s all that really matters for one more week.  Right???

Here’s the list of what’s done and what still has to be completed:

  • marble vanity √
  • all plumbing √
  • new lighting √
  • sheet rock repair from moving lights √
  • room painted √
  • vanity painted √
  • small detail added to vanity √
  • vanity knobs – on their way
  • art for walls – have most – might shop a little
  • window treatments – partially installed, waiting on the show stopper
  • clean
  • style

I can’t believe next week is the last  – the Grand Reveal!!!  Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you’ll come by next week to see my results.  And be sure to check out all the others as well.  There is a wealth of inspiration to be found in this One Room Challenge of Linda’s.

One Room Challenge – Week 4 – Master Bath

Week 4?  At the rate time is moving I feel like Christmas is around the corner!  In case you just dropped by, I’m one of the guest participants in Linda from Calling It Home’s One Room Challenge.  Along with 20 amazing designers, we, the guests, are transforming one room and posting our weekly results.  Follow along at Calling It Home.  It’s so much fun!

I am doing our master bathroom and here’s what’s happened so far:

toilet seat

Just kidding.  The toilet seat will be white!

  • Old tile out, new tile in.
  • Old lights have been removed and new beauties in their place.
  • Giant mirror down, two new ones are ready to be hung.
  • Marble vanity top was installed yesterday.  It really is gorgeous!
  • Paint vanity.
  • I’m working on one additional little detail for the vanity which I am very excited about.  #itsthelittlethings
  • New faucets ready for plumber to install when he comes back for the zillionth time. Husband claims I am the plumber’s retirement fund.   #notfunny  All the plumbing fixtures had to be disconnected for tile and vanity installation and then reconnected and I didn’t exactly have it all timed perfectly!
  • Painting begins Monday.
  • Window treatments are half complete.  The other half is coming all the way from Georgia!!  Can’t wait!!!!

Full disclosure:  Last week I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to remove water stains (seems like an oxymoron) from the frame-less shower doors.  We have extremely hard water in our area and one of us (not naming names) doesn’t squeegee the doors after showering.  And since he didn’t, I stopped.  Just went from bad to worse.  Helpful hint:  apply small amount of Jet Dry (or similar dishwasher rinse product) to one of those Mr. Clean sponges and just wipe the doors down (may take a few tries), pour water on the doors and squeegee.  They look almost brand knew!  You’re welcome!

Thanks so much for checking in.  And a special thank you to Linda for including guest participants.  I am truly having so much fun.  We’re in the home stretch now. A lot has to happen this week as planned or I’m going to be in big trouble!  Be sure to check out everyone else’s progress.  There is a ton of inspiration!  See you next week.

One Room Challege – Week 3 – Master Bath

Welcome and thanks for stopping by.  It’s already week 3 of Linda from Calling it Home’s One Room Challenge. A quick recap – I am updating our master bathroom as a guest participant. You can follow along with all the guests and the 20 designers at Calling It Home blog.   I’m so happy to report that a lot was accomplished this past week.  All the tile is installed and I love it.  I had contacted 2 tile installers who came out to the house to look at the job and then never called me ever again.   The third time was the charm and the installation was flawless.

april 20 026

The giant old mirror is down and in it’s place 2 framed beveled edged mirrors will be hung.  Soon.  Window treatments are in the works and just today I contacted someone to help with a big splurge to bring it all together.  I am beyond excited about this!  Details soon!!

april 20 028

New vanity lights are in and they are gorgeous!  I love, love, love the lucite detail! But the ceiling light is the star of the show for me. This challenge has kind of pushed me outside my comfort zone and I just LOVE the result!  Can’t wait to share it. But for now here’s a peak at the vanity lights.

april 20 042

The vanity top has been measured and should be installed early next week.  Then on to the painting.  If you need me I’ll be found painting anything not moving!

Thanks for checking in!  I’m off now to see what everyone else has been up to.  One of the best parts of the Challenge.
